10 Awesome Geographical Extreme Points

We gathered together some interesting geographical locations with special significant. All the mentioned places are extreme points of either the entire Earth or a specific continent.





1. Summit of Mount Everest, Nepal & China – The Everest is the highest mountain in the world, and the summit of the Everest is the highest land point of Earth – 8,848 m (29,029 ft) above sea level.

2. The Dead Sea, Israel & Jordan – The lowest land point of Earth – 418 meters (1,371 ft) below sea level. The Dead Sea is also about ten times saltier than the ocean’s, making it possible to float without having to move a finger – for all those reasons it is one of Israel’s best tourist attractions.

3. Cabo Da Roca, Portugal – Westernmost point of continental Europe. Besides the geographical significant, the sea cliffs of Cabo Da Roca are extremely beautiful and attract many tourists from Lisbon, which is located less than an hour drive away.

4. Punta de Tarifa, Spain – The southernmost point of continental Europe, at a point where you can see the Mediterranean on your left, the Atlantic Ocean on your right, and Africa (specifically Morocco) just in front of you.

5. Ushuaia, Argentina – Southernmost city in the world, the Southern tip of South America. The beautiful Ushuaia is one of Argentina’s best attractions.


6. Cabo das Agulhas, South Africa –  Southern tip of Africa and the official dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
7. Pointe des Almadies, Senegal – The westernmost point on the continent of Africa.

8. Bouvet Island, Norway – The most remote island in the world. You want to get some time away from everything? Maybe Bouvet island is for you. This small (49 km2 or 219 sq mi) and uninhabited island in the South Atlantic Ocean is the most remote island on earth, with the nearest land being over 1,600 km (994 mi) away in Antarctica, and the nearest inhabited lands are Tristan da Cunha –  2,260 km (1,404 mi) away and South Africa – 2,580 km (1,603 mi) away! 9. Cape Dezhnev, Russia – The easternmost point of Russia and Eurasia. It is located just 82 kilometres (51 mi) across from Cape Prince of Wales in Alaska – the westernmost point on the mainland of the Americas. This is where the distance between Europe / Asia and the Americas is the smallest. It’s amazing to think that just 82 km of sea called the Bering Strait stand between Russia and the United States.
